reading and insight

bedside
here's a pile of books. the photo is from 2006. the novels i don't own anymore. it's so easy to unload those kinds of books. the craft books are part of my personal library. and the cell phone at the bottom of the picture? wow. that's a blast from the past ... though, i still appreciate a basic flip phone. i just finished reading a book, _salem's lot_. the last time i read it was either in my late teens or early 20's. regardless, it's "been awhile". and, i remembered enought about it (vampires). and i thought i had remembered certain details. but, i hadn't remembered "right". it's okay. it's not that important. but, it does say something about perception and memory. in this case, probably more about memory. but perception, i never doubt that. i know what i feel and think.

little tinman

i have a very good friend, from ... a million years ago. his father makes these tin men in his spare time.

i have a great appreciation for craft ... especially for things crafted in metal. on one of my visits, we'd had a conversation about his tin men. he said he really needed some sardine cans.

well, good thing i'm not a picky eater, as i sincerely like sardines! now, whenever i do have sardines, i save the can. and when i visit "home" i take the cans with me for my friend's father.

in return, he said he'd send me home with a tinman.

so, i brought this fellow home with me this past holiday weekend ...
